Rockin' Party Ideas on a Realistic Budget!

Who is the Cheap Party Chick?

My name is Jen, and Cheap Party Chick is a culmination of my life.  You know when you’re going along and nothing makes sense?  It’s like you have all of these different life experiences but they just don’t mesh?  Well, this site is a meshing of mine.

I, like many of you, have been on a search for my own little niche in the world. It has taken a very long time to find mine.  From learning how to send my very first email at a job I was probably totally underqualified for, (I just learned as fast as my brain could fire) to how to use all of the crazy software that was available.  This was a job that involved a lot of desktop publishing.  I was amazed at all of the possibilities of making my own flyers, invitations and greeting cards.  Who knew, in a few short years, I’d have a presence online, and be learning new “apps” almost daily?

While at that job, I began that awful hobby…scrapbooking.  Cutting and pasting and putting together fabulous little books of my cutie pie boys.  At that time, my 8 yo was a baby.  Oh, and thus ends the job.  Sleepless nights led me back home again.

My hubby and I bought our first home and renovated it, we even made a good profit.  Destined to be “flippers,” or at least, real estate agents, I asked a good friend how to get started.    Her advice was to work as an assistant to an agent before spending the money on becoming one.  I did the next best thing, and became an Office Manager for a real estate company, and quickly discerned, agent wouldn’t be for me.  I’m too creative and not all that into the daily and nightly grind that is real estate.  Don’t get me wrong.  I have learned a ton about business and even wouldn’t totally dismiss being involved in real estate in one way, shape or form.

But my passion, my passion, is decorating for parties, and making stuff for them, and trying to do it in a cheap, yet impressive way.  I don’t know why it took me so long to figure this out.  After so many times of hearing, “did you make that?” or “you’re so creative, I could never do that.”  I thought, hmmm I guess I might be on to something.

So often, as a mom, you forget about those things that make you..YOU.  So, I hope you enjoy my site.  I plan on sharing every party tip I’ve learned over the years, and offering some product/service reviews.  I’ll also be sharing my secret how to videos.  And hopefully, a few interviews with some pros on how to save some pennies along the way.

Enjoy, and drop me a line, I would love to hear from you, and maybe do some collaberating for your next event.  I just want to encourage you to celebrate your life.  You’ve only got one shot, make it a good one, and be sure to share it with a party of friends and fam.

  1. I love your site! We too have done the “cheap plastic on the hill” and my kids have always loved it! BTW, we also used our summer tubes as you did and then when it snowed unexpectantly here in Charlotte, we used the same tubes on the same hill minus the cheap plastic! Fun!
